James "Jim" R. Henderson, age 84 of Pigeon Forge, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017.

Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, NCO School, Special Assignment-Arms Room. He was a member of the New York City Police Dept. where he retired with the rank of detective after 20 years of service. While a patrolman, he distinguished himself with several medals including the Medal of Honor presented to him by the Mayor and Police Commissioner of New York City. He retired a second time from Walmart in Sevierville, TN.

Jim was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks in New York and Gatlinburg Lodge #1925, the Mountain Star Masonic Lodge #197 in Sevierville, TN and the Kerbela Shriners of Knoxville, TN. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Sevierville, TN and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pigeon Forge, TN. Jim was a past patron of the Eastern Star.

Wife: Mary Jane Drumm Butler Henderson
Daughters: Traci Preuss and husband Adam, Sebastian, FL, Lisa Tarwater and husband Rodney, Sevierville, TN, Laura Burchfield and husband Grant, Maryville, TN
Sons: James C. Henderson and wife Jessica, Asheville, NC, Neal C. Butler, Knoxville, TN
Grandchildren: Hanna and Natalie Pruess

The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Thursday with funeral service following at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Ford officiating. Interment 2 PM Friday in East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #104. Arrangement by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
