_____________

Thomas Luscombe was a merchant, in business with his father, Thomas T. Luscombe. His father came to this country in 1870 from Canada, settling in Seneca, where he discovered the deposits of Tripoli, the development of which he considered his most important work.

In 1877 he moved to Carthage, where for seven years he was engaged in the dry goods business, first alone, and later in partnership with C. F. McElroy.

In 1884 he established the Eagle Mills which manufactured kiln-dried corn meal hominy and grits. This was a new industry, there being only two similar establishments in the state.

Thomas was working for his father as a merchant in the family business. He suffered an untimely death at 33 years, 5 months & 9 days old when he was tragically killed when involved in a head on train collision and the train caught fire and many lives were lost.
