Daughter of Noah and Kate (Egli) Kauffman, was born in Hopedale, Ill., July 7, 1908; died of a stroke at the Pioneers Memorial Hospital, Rocky Ford, Colo., Sept. 27, 1984; aged 76 y. On Jan. 1, 1936, she was married to Wade G. Jones (R.N.) at her home near Manson,Iowa, who survives. Also surviving are 4 children (Sherry - Mrs. Roger White of Peabody,Kansas., Ward I. of Dillingham, Ark., Joe E. and Dean E. of Rocky Ford), 5 grandchildren, 4 sisters (Rose Mason, Gertrude Powell, Edith Piper, and Grace Nachtigal), and 4 brothers (Walter, Dan, Joe, and Roy Kauffman). She was a charter member of Rocky Ford Mennonite Church. Memorial services were held on Sept. 30, in charge of Jack Scandrett and Paul Yoder.
In 1930 she graduated from La Junta (Colo.) Mennonite School of Nursing. Marion was working in Denver Children's Hospital at the time of their marriage. Then they worked both at Colorado General Hospital. Later they both studied at Goshen College for their B.S. degree. Marion taught physical education classes. Upon graduation they moved to Pueblo, Colo. where Wade was employed at Corwin Hospital. Marion took time to start a family with her first child born in Oct. 1941. The fall of 1944 found them living in Las Animas. Marion was a nurse for the public school system. Wade did psychiatric nursing at the Ft.Lyon Veterans Hospital until he took a 2 years assignment with the new Mental Health Services of Mennonite Central Committee. This assignment took him to Brook Lane in Maryland, Prairie View in Kansas, and King's View in California. He then returned to Las Animas, Colorado. He helped to establish the Licensed Practical Nurse program at La Junta. Wade then became the first R.N. to work inside the walls of the Colorado State Prison in Canon City. All of the helpers were inmates.
