Amos Milburn
Birth: 1925
Death: Jan. 3, 1980

Musician. Born in Houston, Texas, he was a singer, boogie woogie pianist, during the 1940s and 1950s, regarded as one of the fathers of the pre Rock 'n Roll music era. After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he roamed around the country performing at different venues before settling in Los Angeles. Signed to Aladdin Records in 1946, he specialized in good natured upbeat songs, recording hits to include "Chicken Shack Boogie", "Hold Me Baby", "One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer", "Bad, Bad, Whiskey" and "Down the Road Apiece". Although he only had commercial success for eleven years, he was a popular entertainer on the touring circuit and proved to be a major influence for many future musicians. He died of a stroke at age 52. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
