MRS. A. MARKHAM PASSES AT WILLOWS
Mrs. Annie Markham, widow of the late W. H. Markham, former county assessor, died at her residence at _43 Plumas street at 6:17 o'clock Wednesday evening. The inevitable was an expected one, as all hopes of recovery had been abandon some time ago. The last stages of illness were born by the patient with fortitude and resignation.
Mrs. Markham was born at Newville, Glenn county, April 26, 1865 and was, therefore 58 years 4 months and 3 days of age. Her maiden name was Annie Burrows being a member of one of the oldest pioneer families in the county. Her father was R. G. Burrows and mother, Charlotte T. Burrows. She was married at Orland March 19, 1883 to W. H. Markham, and from the union four children were born: Mrs. Elo I. Ball, Willows, Rosco Markham, who died in infancy; Mrs. Louise Sparrow of San Rafael and Ray Markham of Willows. There are also surviving her three brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Markham had resided in Willows for 25 years and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the N.D.G.W. in which orders, prior to her illness, she displayed an active interest. Her invariable cheerful and benevolent disposition endeared her to a wide circle of friends and she was admired for her exemplary traits of character and beloved for her devotion to home and family. To the last she maintained her tranquil and genial demeanor and voiced words of kindness to those about her. The genial tribute to the memory of Mrs. Markham is that she was a good and just woman.
The funeral took place Friday under the auspices of the Eastern Stars from the late residence on Plumas street, Willows, at 10 o'clock and at the graveside at Newville at 2 p.m. - Transcribed by E.
