You were our comfort and safe place to go,
You could take away hurt and soothe our soul.

You could garden, preserve, launder and sew,
not to mention, butcher chickens like a pro.

Your cooking was the best we know,
with which we would fill our bellies till they’d overflow.

You could patch jeans so well nobody would know
and iron with perfection and starch from head to toe.

You attended our events and cheered us to go
often watching us practice at your farm to reach our goal.

Now we have to try to get past our sorrow
and decide what to do—a great first step is to be more like you.

We will think of you whenever we see a flower, shuck corn,
bite into a fresh tomato, smell fresh bread baking, drink wine and giggle,
wonder what bird is singing that song or how ole’ Tiger is getting along.

You will forever be in our hearts and our minds. There will never be another like you and we were lucky to have had you in our lives and will be happy to carry your spirit with us until we meet again!
