|Death: ||Nov. 24, 1874|
Harrison Ellis was born in 1799 in Virginia, the son of Robert Ellis (1750-1800) and Elizabeth (Whitecotton) Ellis (1755- ) who were natives of Virginia.
Harrison was the youngest of the following known siblings:
Nancy (Ellis) Kerns 1777-1853
George Ellis 1779-1857
Elijah Ellis 1783-1864
Diana Ellis 1783-1857
Elizabeth Ellis 1787-1825
James William Ellis 1789-1864
Thornton Ellis 1791-1874
Susan Ellis 1797-1845
Harrison's father reportedly died in Virginia in 1800. Sometime within the next 20 or so years, Harrison and his mother and some of his siblings moved to Bracken County, Kentucky.
Here, Harrison met and married Jemima McGohan, a native of Kentucky. They were married on September 16, 1824 in Bracken County. They had the following known children:
Sarah E. Ellis 1827-1883
*Rev. Daniel R. Ellis 1828-1878
Mary B. Ellis 1830-
Virginia A. (Ellis) Nichols 1832-1883
George W. Ellis 1834-1860
Francis M. Ellis 1840-1912
Martha Susan (Ellis) Frazier 1845-1900
The first 5 children were reportedly born in Braken County, Kentucky. Then, between 1834 and 1840, the family moved to Clermont County, Ohio, where the two youngest children were born.
In the 1850 census of Tate Township, Clermont County, Ohio, Harrison Ellis was 51, a farmer, and wife Jemima was 45. They had 7 children in the home: Sarah 24, Daniel 22, Mary 20, Virginia 18, George 16, Francis 10, and Martha 5.
In 1860, they were living in the same location. Harrison was 61, Jemima 55, and 4 children were still left at home: Sarah 34, Virginia 28, Francis M. 20, and Martha 15.
In 1870, still in the same location. Harrison was listed as 78 but should have only been 71, wife Jemima 66, and daughter Sarah 43.
Harrison died 4 years after this census and was buried in Tate Township Cemetery. Jemima died in 1877 and was buried in the same cemetery.
Harrison's son, *Rev. Daniel R. Ellis, became a Methodist Minister. He went to Iowa and then to Missouri as a pioneer minister/missionary. Many of his descendants up until the time of this writing in 2012 stayed in Missouri where Daniel died. Daniel named one of his sons Harrison after his father, and this son became an Osteopathic physician.
