Mr. Joshua W. Houghhton,
The Father of the Houghton Brothers, died at the home of his son Wilmot last Thursday evening. Oct.6th 1898 at 10:50 p.m.,after a long and painful sickness. Dropsy combined with
old age was the cause of his death.
The deseased was 71 yrs old ,he had been a great suffer for two years but bore it with patience.
He was a devout Christian being converted 29 years ago and joined the M.P. church of which he was a member until a year and a half ago when he joined the M.E. Church at this place .Deseased was born in Haldimand ,Canada, January 22, 1828 , and was united in marriage to Maranda Button , Oct 2,1849.
Eleven Children is the result of the union - three girls and eight boys, and a widow of nine children survive him.
Two daughters are residing at St. Clair ,Michigan, and seven sons now living in Griggs county. In 1858 he settled in St. Clair, Michigan and resided there until May 1896,when he came to Griggs county where he has lived ever since.
The funeral service was held at the M.E. Church of this place last Saturday afternoon, Rev,B.A. Burns officiating,and the remains were laid to rest in the Cooperstown cemetery
