OBITUARY: Mrs. John Hill age 58 years, 10 mos. and 24 days, of this City, when found was enveloped in flames. was fatally burned in her home here at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning. Her clothing was ignited in some way while she was about her work in the kitchen, she had apparently attempted to save herself by covering herself up in bed. Her bed clothing ignited and before held could reach her she was burned too serious to recover.
Her screams brought her husband from the basement where he had been working. He pulled her from the flames and at once called for medical aid.
Dr. H. R. Folckemer was soon on the job and did all that was possible to help the dying woman. The accident occurred shortly after breakfast. It is thought that Mrs. Hill's dress caught fire from the kitchen stove. She had not been well for several months, suffering from a nervous ailment. Her son Carl, of was called home some few weeks ago when his mother was quite low, she improved in health and he returned to his work.
Before her marriage, Mrs. Hill was Miss Mary Salome James, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos James. She lived in and around here the greater part of her life. On brother, Harmon James lives in the state of Maine. Her only son Carl, is employed by a big jewelery concern in LaSalle, this state. Word was sent to him Tuesday morning and he arrived here by automobile that afternoon reaching here too late to see his mother alive. She died at 2:10 Tuesday afternoon.
The funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock by her pastor Reverend Noel T. Adams.
Mary Salome James was born May 13, 1864, in Hancock County, Illinois, near Augusta and spent her life in this vicinity. Her early education was received in the Augusta public schools.
