Charles Raines was married 4 December 1863 to Mrs. Maggie Wilson, the widow of Tom Wilson, who with her children, Horace Wilson, J.C. Wilson, and Mrs. J.H. McCracken were with Dr. Raines when he passed away.
The news of the death of Dr. C.B. Raines, 65, of Mineral Wells came as a great shock to our citiens on Sunday. Dr. Raines was a man of strong personality who touched the life of the city on many sides and his friends are numbered among all classes of citizens.
At the age of 16, he entered the Confederate Service and fought until the close of the war. He attended medical college at Louisville, Kentucky, practicing medicine in Parker County and Palo Pinto County from 1870-1872, when he lived at Weatherford. Later, he moved to Palo Pinto, Texas and as a slender lad, fought Indians or practiced medicine when his services were so required.
In 1882, the discovery of the mineral waters of Mineral Wells began to make a small stir and Dr. Raines moved to Mineral Wells which has been his home since that time. He took a prominent part in all concerning the development of Mineral Wells from a tented village to the present time.
Services were held at First Presbyterian Church. Graveside services were directed by the Elks Club.
Dr. Raines had three sisters - Delilah Pope Raines, Martha Baldwin Raines and Julia Minerva Raines; one brother - Pope Raines. HIs sister, Mrs. A.B. "Julia Minerva Gant is the only one of the family now living.
Dr. Charles Raines was one of the Indian Commissioners appointed by the Governor of Texas to settle the trouble with the Indians. Dr. Raines was well known in Fort Worth.
