HOWARD ANDREWS, 85, and BETTY JEAN ANDREWS, 83, of Duncan, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, in their home in Duncan.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Duncan, with the Rev. Paul McDowell officiating, and assisted by the Rev. Dan Fletcher. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens under direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Howard was born April 22, 1921, in Jefferson County, to G.W. and Nola Andrews. Betty was born to lifelong Duncan citizens, Eugene and Maude Thompson.
Howard and Betty were married Dec. 14, 1942, in Duncan, and their only child, David, was born Nov. 26, 1943.
Betty was a lifelong Duncan resident. She graduated from Duncan High School in 1942. She planned and orchestrated most of the class reunions, including their 60th reunion, which was held in 2002.
She was the niece of and traveled with Oklahoma's first official "State Treasure" and Chickasaw storyteller, Te Ate Thompson Fisher.
As a young man, Howard was a member of the 45th Division of the National Guard, and was called to duty in World War II. He was a true American hero and piloted many missions over enemy territory. He took great pride in sharing many of these episodes in his later years.
He spent many hours volunteering his time for Boy Scouts, VFW, American Legion, AARP, Optimist Club and Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
Howard and Betty were longtime members of St. Paul's Methodist Church, where Betty was an organist. They both retired from Halliburton Services, and Howard later served as Director of Civil Defense for Stephens County.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Debbie of New Mexico; Howard's sisters, Janice Peck and husband James O. of Duncan, and Kathryne Larrick of Wellsville, Kan.; Howard's brothers, Bob, R.F. and wife Betty, John and wife Peggy, all of California; Betty's nephew, Guy Thompson and wife Rosemary; and many nieces and nephews.
They were preceded in death by their son, David; their parents; Howard's sisters, Alice Woods, Mercedes Seiler Beck and Gene Wilkinson; and a brother, Bill.
Bearers will be brothers and nephews.
