| Birth: | Jul. 24, 1786 Salisbury Merrimack County New Hampshire, USA | | Death: | Oct. 21, 1853 Portsmouth Rockingham County New Hampshire, USA |  US Congressman. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1808, studied law, and began practice in Durham in 1811. He moved to Portsmouth in 1816 and continued his law practice. From 1817 to 1818 he was Clerk of the State Senate. Bartlett was Rockingham County Solicitor from 1819 to 1821. He served as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1819 to 1821, and was Speaker in 1821. In 1822 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as an Adams-Clay candidate. He was reelected twice and served from 1823 to 1829. Bartlett served in the New Hampshire House for the second time in 1830. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor in 1831 and 1832, and served in the New Hampshire House again in 1838. Bartlett was a Delegate to the 1850 state Constitutional Convention, and was a member of the New Hampshire House for the final time from 1851 to 1852. (bio by: Bill McKern)
