DONALD SARGENT, 69, DIES UNEXPECTEDLY on Christmas Eve 1957

well known retired Linton coal miner

resided in Linton since 1903

had been employed as a coal miner for 44 years working in various coal mines in this area.

last was employed as a miner at the old New Hope mine
as well as having been employed for the past four years at the National Guard Armory near here.

member of the Linton Evangelical United Brethren church

member of the Linton Masonic lodge No. 560 and the local Columbian chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Married first wife, Mrs. Bertha Sargent, who died July 16, 1951.

survived by the widow, Mrs. Lessie Shilkett Sargent, to whom he was married May 9, 1953; one son, Arnold L. Sargent of Linton; a daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Veatch of Bloomington; a foster daughter, Mrs. Ruth Walton of Linton; a foster son, John Kirkman of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren; three step-sons Lloyd Shilkett of Detroit, Mich., Galen Shilkett of Sandborn and Gerald Shilkett of Linton, rural route, and two bothers, James Sargent of Linton and Hobart Sargent of Bloomington. One son Donald Sargent, Jr. one brother and two sisters also preceded him in death.

body was taken to the Welch and Cornett Funeral home, to lie in state, then on to the Linton Evangelical United Brethren church for burial

Funeral services held at the church with Rev. J. Clayton Stadler and Rev. Doran McCarty officiating and interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. The Linton Masonic lodge will conduct its service at the graveside.
