Birth: Sep. 3, 1910
Death: Feb. 17, 2007

War criminal. A member of the French Vichy government that collaborated with the Nazis after the fall of France, he was responsible for the deportion of more then 1500 French Jews who were eventually murdered at Auschwitz. After the war he became head of the Paris Police and then France's Minister of Budget. When the facts of his war crimes came to light decades later, he was tried for and convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was freed in 2000 on the grounds of poor health, after serving less than three years of his sentence. (bio by: Erik Lander)
