Birth: Mar. 31, 1891
Oklahoma, USA
Death: Jan. 11, 1919
Amarillo
Potter County
Texas, USA

Leona was a twin, and she and her sister were each given one of the names of her father's very beloved sister Lurana Leona (Freeman) Combs, his sister who had married the brother of Leona and Lurana's mother! There were actually three Freeman siblings who married three Combs siblings.

Leona and Lurana were very close, and there are many photos of them clowning around for the camera together. The two girls even had a double wedding on August 27, 1910 in Amarillo TX. Lurana lived a long full life, but Leona's life was cut short. She lost her second son (R.P.) at six days old in 1917, and then had twin girls the next year, at the very end of 1918. Leona died only 14 days after giving birth to these babies, and one of the twins, Margie, died only four days later. The surviving twin lived a long full life, mirroring the story of their mother and her twin.

Leona and Arthur had lost R.P. and Margie, but still had their older daughter Mildred Mae (1913-1972), their son Willard A. ((1915-1977) and the surviving newborn twin girl Maggie, b. 1918.

Arthur, Leona's husband remarried to Ethel B. (Tolbert) Davis, and eventually migrated with the bulk of the family to California in the early 1940s, settling in the Merced area of California's fertile Central Valley, living there until he died in Atwater, just outside of Merced.
