Richard was born to James Paul and LaVerne (Jensen) Hancock.
He graduated from Herman High School and attended Dana College for 2 years. He weekend activives were hanging out with his friends Frankie and Bud, attending the Arlinngton Dances.
Prior to being drafted by the Army he married Patty Lou Farrens on March 28-1953.
Returning to the states, he immediately started working in his dad's farming enterprise.
The family lived in Herman until 1980 when they moved to the Hancock home farm., where he enjoyed all forms of news, sports, ice cream, cookies and feeding his birds. They lived on the family farm for 57 years.
His involvment in the Herman community consisted of joining-Land Mark Lodge #222, where he served as Master in 1973-Order of the Eastern Star #216, where he served as Worthy Patron-Member of the Jackson Peck Legion, where he received his 60 year pin.
As a Shiner, he and Cameron would yearly take the Herman Boys Scouts Troop to the Shirne Circus and also returning from the summer camping trip, they were treated to a pancake breakfast at Village Inn.
He loved his family and joyfully welcomed each new member. He even joined his wife in many of her gardne club actvities and became a favorite non-member,
