Born to Edward C. "Coonie" Smith and Anna Smith, "Hamilton's" lst wife was Martha Tate where they married on Aug 9, 1865 and lived in Altamont, Grundy Co., TN. They had two children, Josephine and James (James was living in Wichita Falls, TX at the time of his sister's death). After the death of Martha, "Hamilton" married Lucy Caroline Orrick born June 1, 1867 in Warren Co, TN. to James Allen Orrick and Elizabeth Muncy. "Hamilton" had five children with Lucy Caroline, two died as infants. They had three sons, Andrew "Harrison" Smith, Sr. (a Deputy Sheriff in Cannon Co.), DeWitt Smith who donated the land for the Pleasant View Baptist Church and Banford Smith. The three sons are buried with Lucy C. Smith in Pleasant View Baptist Church, Cannon Co. One of "Hamilton's" brothers was John Calvin Smith (both in the same regiment in the Civil War) who lived in Beersheba Springs then Altamont, Grundy Co., TN. His log cabin was moved eventually to Altamont and then purchased by the Northcutt family. It is now known as the Cagle House.
