NEWTON - Sarah Moose McCarter Benfield, 95, of Valley Nursing Home, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Valley Nursing Home in Taylorsville. Born Nov. 23, 1911, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late James Samuel and Sally Emma Anthony Moose. She was a member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ and retired from Mrs. P.O. Carpenter Clothing Store in Newton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bruce McCarter; her second husband, Jason J. Benfield; three brothers, Paul Moose, Phillip Moose and Robert Moose; and a sister, Elsie Harkins. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Rector and husband, Carl E., of Conover; two sisters, Mattie Stutts of Newton and Sue Murphy of Collettsville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, with the Revs. James Luck Jr. and Fred Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday, from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m., at the church. Memorials may be made to Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, 117 East J. St., Newton, N.C. 28658. Condolences may be sent to the Benfield family at .
