Maxine U. Strickler, 91, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at Barton Stone Home in Jacksonville. She was born Nov. 17, 1915, in Beardstown, the daughter of George Everett and Lula Douglas Moss. She married Glenn Thomas Strickler on Dec. 9, 1933, in Pittsfield and he preceded her in death on Mar. 29, 1985.
She is survived by three daughters, Beverly (husband, Robert) Mullen of Jacksonville, Janet (husband, Ralph) Hisle of Temple, Texas and Judith (husband, Rev. Ronald) Fearneyhough of Gracewood, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Michael (wife, Sue Ann) Mullen of Jacksonville, Tom (wife, Pat) Mullen of Peoria, Ariz., Jerry (wife, Ann) Mullen of Wildwood, Mo., Tim Mullen of Tucson, Ariz., Brad (wife, Robin) Hisle of San Antonio, Texas, Lance (wife, Lisa) Fearneyhough of Martinez, Ga., David (wife, Robin) Fearneyhough of Grovetown, Ga., Kim (husband, Steve) Settles of Greenfield, and Tracey Dirden of Jacksonville; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Edward Strickler; one grandson, Doug Hisle; one great-great-grandson; and four sisters, Rowena Shouse, Violet Smith, Charlene Daugherty and Betty Fletcher.
Mrs. Strickler was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, and enjoyed baking and cooking for church functions. She retired from the Jacksonville State Hospital in 1982. Prior to that she worked for NESCO and J. Capps and Sons. She enjoyed Bunco, having played with one of her card groups for over thirty years, and she loved to dance. She also loved feeding her family, and always had a dishrag in her hand.
