Jazz Musician. His headstone was restored by Chet Krolewicz, a former band member. When Chet Krolewicz saw the photo of Fletcher Henderson’s headstone in the family plot in Cuthbert, Georgia, he was appalled. Not only had the marker been ignored and left unkempt, its condition tarnished the memories Chet had of the great band leader. Chet couldn’t sit still about Fletcher’s resting place. He contracted Pearson Memorials in Cuthbert to clean and restore the family plot. A restoration plaque was added to recognize the contribution Fletcher Henderson had made to the music world. In 1943, Chester "Chet Kruly" Krolewicz had joined the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra as the first reverse-color line member in an all black orchestra. Chet’s Stromberg 300 kept the rhythm section swinging as they toured the states in 1943. Chet’s early experience in the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra helped to break the color barrier before integrated white bands played the south. It showed just how progressive Fletcher Henderson was (adapted from bio by Jeff Hyland).
