Actor. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he appeared in countless television shows and films beginning in the 1960s. He is best known to many for the role of "Francis Urquhart" in the 1990 British television mini-series "House of Cards" and for the role of "Chancellor" in the 2005 television series "Bleak House". A trained Shakespearean actor, he had an accomplished career on the stage before making his movie debut in the 1967 film "Marat/Sade". His other memorable credits include "A Midsummer Night's Dream", (1968), "Eyeless in Gaza", (1971), "The Darwin Adventure", (1972), as Sir Bernard Montgomery in the mini-series "Ike", (1979), "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy", (1979) and "102 Dalmatians", (2000).
