Arnold P. Gau, son of Anna Pickard and Chrysant Gau, was born May 16, 1875 at Westphalia, Iowa, and died February 6, 1952 at the Greywood Home in Omaha, where he had made his home for the past 4 years, following an illness of 6 months, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 21 days.

He attended the country schools around Westphalia, Iowa.

April 18, 1899 he was united in marriage to Anna Rosalie Leinen at St. Mary's church in Portsmouth, Iowa. To this union 6 children were born.

His married life was spent at Portsmouth, Iowa where he was engaged in carpenter work. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church at Portsmouth all his life. He was interested in music and was the leader of the Portsmouth town band and also bugle blower for 30 years.

He is survived by his 6 children, Arnold C. Gau, Jr., of Marty, South Dakota, Andrew M. Gau of Portsmouth, Iowa, Michael Edward Gau of Atlantic, Iowa, Mrs. Owen Bendon (Mary) of Portsmouth, Mrs. Charles Howe (Pauline) of Kansas City, Kansas and Mrs. Ray Barta (Rita) of Omaha, Nebraska; 6 brothers, Joe Gau of Portsmouth, Albert of Parkston, South Dakota, Fred of Omaha, Bill of South Dakota, Chris of Defiance and Cornelius of Omaha and 2 sisters, Mrs. Margaret Mumm of Geddes, South Dakota and Mrs. George Weihs (Anna) of Westphalia, Iowa. His wife preceded him in death December 30, 1946 at the age of 69 years.

Funeral services were held Friday morning, February 8, 1952 at Our Lady of Fatima church at Portsmouth, Iowa with Rev. N. A. Gaul officiating at the Requiem High Mass. Music was by the choir.

Pallbearers were Joseph Gau, Loren Weihs, Jerome Gau, Louis Leinen, Paul Leinen and Ernie Ohlinger. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery, Portsmouth.
