From the Boliver Commercial:
RULEVILLE- A shooting in Ruleville Friday night left the town with its first homicide-suicide in recent history.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., members of the Ruleville Police Department were called to West Sunflower Road in reference to gunshots being fired.
According to Interim Chief Amos Mitchner, Stephanie Brown, 24, of Ruleville, was shot by Demetruis D. Cox and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Cox, formerly of Cleveland, then turned the gun on himself and was also fatally wounded.
Mitcher explained that Skylar Jones, 24, of Ruleville, was also fired upon and was taken to the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He is currently in the intensive care unit.
"They are expecting him to pull through," said Mitchner.
The chief explained that Brown and Jones were seated in Jones' Mercury vehicle outside Brown's home when Cox arrived to confront the woman.
"Cox drove up and Jones and Brown were in the vehicle," said Mitchner. "From the way she was laying, it seemed that she got out to speak with him. I guess words were passed and he shot her in the abdomen."
Mitchner said that Cox then fired multiple shots through the vehicle's front left window at Jones. He explained that Jones was struck in the hand and chest.
The chief explained that Cox then shot himself with the .357 Magnum.
"He walked on the passenger side and took his own life," said Mitchner. "The body was laying on the back passenger side in the street and on the curb."
Mitchner explained that the gun, which was not registered, was laying at Cox's feet.
