Carol June Brown of 3321 Silver Spur Drive, in San Angelo, Tx. died at her home on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at the age of 60.
Carol June was the daughter of Harold Rhodes Smith and Williford Bond Smith of Kingsland, Tx. She was born in Odessa, Tx on March 30, 1946. She has one brother Calvin Bond Smith, who lives on the J Bar Ranch in Crane County. Carol was raised on the ranch and had a wonderful childhood. She raised Hereford Steers in the 4 H Club. She enjoyed dove and rabbit hunting and horseback riding. Carol June also played tennis in junior high. She loved ballet, dancing, reading and water skiing.
Carol June graduated from Crane High School in 1964 where she was a cheerleader and member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1968 where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She attended summer schools at the University of Hawaii and the University of Colorado. She traveled with college groups to Mexico and Europe.
In 1971, Carol June married Ronald N. Brown of El Paso, Tx. They have one beloved daughter Lindsey June Brown, who is currently a counseling intern at Samaritan Counseling Center in San Angelo. Carol June taught high school English in the Dallas and Ysleta Schools Districts.
Carol June moved to San Angelo, Tx in 1986. She has been a member of church and civic organizations. As a member of the Christian Church of San Angelo, Carol June was a children's Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher, benevolence committee, building decorating committee, and a bible teacher for the MOPS Christian Ladies group. Carol June was a core leader for the Community Bible Study for 5 years.
In the community Carol June helped organize the art in elementary school programs at Crockett Elementary. She also taught 4th grade as a school marm at Old Fort Concho to help give the children sense of history during the 1800s. Carol June gave of herself to others by being a Hospice Volunteer, serving under Chaplain Jim Benson in the Pastoral Services at Shannon Hospital.
Carol June is survived by husband, Ronald N. Brown of San Angelo; her daughter, Lindsey June Brown of San Angelo; her parents, Harold and Williford Smith of Kingsland; her brother Calvin Smith and his wife Suzahn of the J Bar Ranch; nephews, Jordan Smith of Lubbock, Jason and LynnDee Smith of Crane and their daughters Lauren Kelly and Leah Carol, and Justin and Amanda Smith and sons, Nathan and Daniel of San Antonio.
Carol June is also survived by her in-laws, Roger and Helon Brown of San Angelo; her sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Jackie Dillard and their sons, Kyle Dillard of Austin and Austin Dillard of San Angelo; her brother-in-law, Chuck Brown and his children, Kenzie, Breck and Thad Brown, all of El Paso, TX.
Services will be at the Christian Church of San Angelo on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at 2 p.m. The funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Bob Beaver of the Christian Church of San Angelo, 4064 S. Bryant Blvd., San Angelo, Tx.
Burial will follow at the Ector County Cemetery in Odessa, Texas on Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at 2 p.m.
