Albert was the son of Charles Whitlock Calfee and Nancy D. Bailey.
Albert served as a private, Co. A, 17th Cavalry. He had enlisted in Princeton, WV and became the enrolling officer of Mercer Co., WV. He was discharged on 31 December, 1864, and paroled at Charleston on 23 January 1865.
In August, 1864, Albert was riding from the residence of Col. William H. French to the Princeton court house with his brother John C. Calfee and Elisha Heptinstal, when John and Elisha were killed by marauders and thieves.
In the 1880 Census, Albert is found to be a patient in the Trans-Allegheny Asylum for the Insane, Weston, Lewis Co., WV. He was listed as a farmer from West Virginia.
