Death: Dec. 26, 2006

Stacy Blakely Bailey, 56, passed away in her sleep on December 26, 2006, in Millers Creek, North Carolina. She was born in Colorado Springs to Warren and Janice Blakely and lived there most of her life in her "Pink House". She was married in Millers Creek to Glen Bailey in 2004 and was at his home when she died. She is survived by Glen Bailey, her two brothers Frank and Bryan Blakely, her niece Sara and nephews Jason and Bryan David and grand niece Solana Mirabelle, and her many devoted friends. Her roots in Colorado Springs go back to her grandparents: her maternal grandmother (Muriel Pound Bushman) died here after coming to alleviate tuberculosis; her paternal grandfather (William Arthur Blakely) was a professor of psychology at Colorado college, and both of her parents graduated from Colorado Springs High School (now Palmer) and from Colorado College. Stacy graduated from Wasson High School in 1968 and from the University of Colorado in 1977. Her hunger for knowledge led her to study extensively the fields of art history, bacteriology, anthropology, geography, geology and ecology before earning her degree in biology. Her love of travel and adventure took her to many countries where she pursued another passion by studying ethnic and regional cooking. From 1978 to 1980 she worked as a chef at the Colorado Springs restaurant La Petite Maison and studied cooking intensively at many culinary schools. In 1982, Stacy opened The Pampered Palate in Old Colorado City, a restaurant and catering business that specialize in world cuisines and an ever changing menu. She sold the restaraunt after twelve years. In her catering business, she became internationally known and prepared meals for many famous people, including the Presidents Gerald R. Ford, Ronald Reagan and G.H.W. Bush as well as Malcom Forbes, Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Goodall. Stacy had many interest and passions. She loved camping arrowhead hunting, art, design, bird watching, bridge, gardening, travel, cooking and politics. Her love for the environment led her to write a paper as an undergraduate predicting global warming. She volunteered her time to many organizations, including CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), the Zebulon Pike Detention Center, March for Hunger, the Hot Line and the Democratic Party. A memorial Service and celebration of Stacy's life will be held at 5:30 pm Saturday, February 24, 2007, at the all Souls Unitarian Church, 730 N. Tejon. Reception to follow at church.
