Vincenzo "Jim" Salati, 75, of Arnold died Tuesday (Nov. 4, 2003) at his home.

Born May 14, 1928, in Arnold, he lived in the Valley all of his life.

He served as a cook in the Army during World War II.

A truck driver for Hammels Express, Pittsburgh, he retired in 1990 after 40 years employment. He then was a delivery driver for various local florists.

Mr. Salati was a member of Arnold United Methodist Church and the Columbiana Lodge, both in Arnold, and Teamsters Local 2249, Pittsburgh.

He enjoyed playing cards, cooking, baking, gardening and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ruth Minyon Salati; three daughters, Mrs. Linda (John) Haidze, Diane Van Tassell and Mrs. Jamie (Frank) Conforti, all of New Kensington; two brothers, Perry (Barbara) Salati of Arnold and Anthony (MaryLee) Salati of New Kensington; and two sisters, Elizabeth Findon of California and Mary Jane Salati of New Kensington.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Mrs. Adaina (Jeff) Wiles of Arnold, Timothy, Jason and Jeremy Van Tassell and Ali Haidze; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Zakery Wiles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Vienna Torre Salati.

Friends are being received from 7 to 9 tonight and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the GIUNTA FUNERAL HOME INC., 1509 Fifth Ave., Arnold. Family and friends will meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and proceed to Arnold United Methodist Church, 1801 Leishman Ave., where a funeral service will take place with his pastor, the Rev. Joseph Yurko, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park mausoleum, Lower Burrell.
