James. M. Brahan was born in Hoosick Falls 2 Oct 1893, the son of Edward Brahan and Anne Dwyer. He attended Saint Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls, NY and graduated in 1912.

He was a veteran of WWI and was a graduate of the Infantry Officers Training School. He was appointed Rensselaer County Treasurer 15 Jul 1948 by Governor Thomas E. Dewey and was elected to seven consecutive terms in that position, the longest tenure in the county history.

He was a founding trustee of Hudson Valley Community College, Brahan Hall was dedicated to him in 1986.

He was a reporter with the North Adams Herald and the Troy Morning Record and publisher of the Hoosick Falls Press and merged the Press with the former Rensselaer County Standard in 1933. He was owner and publisher of the Hoosick Falls Standard Press from 1933-1962.

He was a life member of the Hoosick Falls Derby Community Club, Hoosick Falls Elks Club, Lodge 178, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion HF Post 40, and a member of the Hoosick Barracks of the Veterans of WWI.

He is survived by his daughter, Anne Ralston of HF And Florida.
