US Air Force SGT Robert Lamar Johnson, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Hendersonville, NC.

US Air Force Sergeant Robert Lamar Johnson was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Air Force, SGT Johnson served our country until January 25th, 1970 in Kien Phong, South Vietnam. He was 24 years old and was not married. It was reported that Robert died from an undetermined accident. His body was recovered. Robert was born on December 28th, 1945 in Hendersonville, North Carolina. SGT Johnson is on panel 14W, line 065 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 3 years.

THE TIMES-NEWS, HENDERSONVILLE, NC, MONDAY, JANUARY 26, 1970. US Air Force Sgt Robert Lamar Johnson, 24, son of Mr Dahl Moody and Mrs Essie Mae Harkins Johnson of 1221 Park Street, died Sunday in the Mekong Delta area of Vietnam as a result of non-hostile action. Johnson was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and had attended Mars Hill College before joining the Air Force in 1966. He was sent to Vietnam last July. He was serving in the MAC-V advisors component at Cao Lanh at the time of his death. Surviving in addition to the parents are two brothers, Jefferson Davis Johnson of Hendersonville and Bill Johnson of Mars Hill College, and the maternal grandmother, Mrs Roberta Harkins of Canton. Thomas Shepherd and Son Inc. will announce arrangements.

Roommate, friend, I'll never forget you, Bob. I remember with fondness our time in 7th Air Commando Squadron, Sembach AB, Germany, 1967 to 1968. Rest in Peace. Gaylord "Bucky" Hydal.

He served with the 22nd Tactical Air Support Squadron, 504th Tactical Air Support Group, 7th Air Force.

He was awarded The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal and The National Defense Service Medal.
