History - Urban Jacob Stewart, son of Urban Van Stewart and Lydia Gage Jacobs, was born May 13, 1846, in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois.

Urban Jacob Stewart came West with his parents and settled in Beaver, Utah. In 1850, when 100 volunteers were called to settle Little Salt Lake (now known as Parowan, Urban volunteers and lived there a number of years. Through the trials and hardships of making Parowan a place for the Saints to live, it was then that his wife, Lydia Jacobs, left him and went to California.

She took their two children, Urban Jacob and Edna, with her and Urban Van Stewart never saw his wife and daughter again. He always felt that the hardships and trials were too much for his wife, however, his son, Urban Jacob, came back and visited many times.

Records show that Urban Jacob's first wife was named Emily. They were blessed with three sons who were named Angus, Roy and Bert.

Later Urban Jacob married Elizabeth Simpkins of Cedar City, Utah and they had a daughter named Lydia. The daughter lived almost thirteen years and then died with dropsy disease.

On August 8, 1893, Urban Jacob married Clara Bauer. They settled in Colton, San Bernardino, California, where their first child, a girl, Myrtle ivy, was born December 23, 1895. Four years later they were blessed with a son, Urban Horatio. he was an ideal speciman of manhood. He was a true Latter-day Saint and was loved by all who knew him. He lived to be about nineteen years of age when he died 23 october 1918, with the Spanish influenza at Delta, Millard, Utah.

While living in California Urban Jacob and his wife Clara opened their home to the missionaries. The missionaries called often and Clara would do their laundry and give them good meals when they did come to their home. Seventy five missionaries made the Stewart home their headquarters and held cottage meetings. This was their only contact with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

While living in California Urban Jacob was successful in his mining business but was inactive in the church since it was not organized the. It was then he married Rachel Ellen Bauer and had three daughters named Urba Etta, Edna Gertrude, Bertha, and a son named Stanley Van.

Urban Jacob Stewart was a large, tall man and was well built. Men who knew him speak well of him. He was baptized April 22, 1890 and was endowed September 14, 1941. He was endowed by Orson Leavitt with the arrangements and request made by Urban Jacob's daughter, Myrtle Ivy Stewart.

He sold his California mine and moved to Alamo, Nevada, Lincoln County. He purchased a farm in Alamo and lived there until his death due to dropsy disease, January 5, 1918, at his farm home. He is buried in the Alamo Cemetery where his latest wife, Rachel Ellen, is buried beside him.
