PFC Johnathon Miles Millican
Birth: Jan. 4, 1987, USA
Death: Jan. 20, 2007, Iraq

Pfc. Millican of Trafford, Alabama and Georgia attended school at Lula Elementary and East Hall High, graduating from Locust Fork High School in 2005 where he played football and ran track. Johnathon served in the United States Army for 17 months before he was killed. He loved to play Xbox and was of the Baptist Faith. Mills, as his friends called him, planned to move back to Locust Fork after his hitch with the Army and settle down to a relaxing life. Gunshots and explosions preceded the arrival of the attackers outside the room door where Jonathan was off duty, in a communications room, exchanging e-mail messages with his wife. Sgt. 1st Class Sean Bennett, one of four other soldiers in the room, slammed the door shut and tried to keep the attackers from forcing their way in. But the attackers pushed the door open wide enough to put an AK-47 muzzle in the room and fire several rounds. Then one of them tossed in a grenade. At that moment Jonathan was on one knee, M4 at the ready, facing the door and ready to shoot. He could just as easily have jumped behind a desk or ducked down but he chose to cover the grenade. It was those actions that earned him the nation's third-highest award, the Silver Star, for combat heroism for covering a grenade to protect four of his fellow soldiers. The Alabama football fan was killed in action during an insurgent ambush in Karbala, Iraq at age 20. Four other's died in the same attack. They are, Sgt Jonathan Chism , Pfc. Shawn Falter , Lieut. Jacob Fritz and Capt. Brian Freeman In 2008 the Post Office in Lula, Georgia was renamed in honor of Pfc. Johnathon Millican. The Army also presented his mother with a Silver Star award in recognition of his bravery.
