Cloyd was the son of Cecil Cloyd and Minnie Lillian Howard McMurry and the husband of Margaret Louise Sanford. He was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and served in the Southwest Pacific Theatre in the Philippines. He became a prisoner of war, and he died in the Osaka Main Camp Chikko Osaka 34-135.

"The source for Cloyd's May 12, 1942 death date appears to be the "World War II Prisoners of War, 1941-1946" database which sites that date as Cloyd's "report date." https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=8919&h=39883&ssrc=pt&tid=114254362&pid=240125650447&usePUB=true.

"However, the same record includes Cloyd's "latest report date" as November 21, 1944. The "Umeda POW Camp Deceased POWS" database, originally created by Roger Mansell, the recognized expert on Allied prisoners of the Japanese during WWII, lists November 24, 1944 as Cloyd's date of death. Based on the 2 sources, I believe November 24, 1944 is the more accurate.

"Anecdotally, Cloyd was my grandmother's nephew and Cloyd's niece, Sue Fry, informed me by email that Cloyd's mother, Minnie Howard McMurry, was informed in late 1944 by telegram of her son's death. Please let me know if we can change this date. Thanks.
