Anning Smith Prall

Death:	Jul. 23, 1937 Boothbay Harbor Lincoln County Maine, USA
US Congressman. He attended New York University and began his career as a clerk in the office of a New York City newspaper. He later entered banking, and from 1908 to 1918 was in charge of his employer's real estate department. He then began a public service career, serving as Clerk of New York City's First District Municipal Court. From 1918 to 1921 he was President of the New York City Board of Education, and from 1922 to 1923 he was the city's Commissioner of Taxes and Assessment. In 1923 he was the successful Democratic candidate in a special election for the US House seat left vacant by Daniel J. Riordan's death. He was reelected to five full terms and served from November 1923 to January 1935. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1934. In 1935 he was appointed Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, a position he held until his death from a heart attack at his summer home. Anning S.
