Leakesville
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 27, at 10 a.m. at Cedar Grove Baptist Church for Mable S. Smith, 88, of Leakesville, who died December 24, 2006 at Greene County Hospital.
Rev. Greg Foster and Dr. Robert Kirkland officiated. Interment was in Mutual Right Cemetery in Avera.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, J.N. (Nath) and Bertha Byrd Sowell, husband, Stance L. Smith, brothers, Herbert Sowell, M.E. (Eddie) Sowell, sisters, Jennie Sarah New, Myra Sowell and Sue Cain.
Survivors include one son, Darwin Smith of Leakesville, two daughters, Hilda Smith of Leakesville, Marilyn Powell of Belle Chasse, La.; two brothers, J.N. Sowell of Wilmer, Ala. and W.G. (Shorty) Sowell of Leakesville; one sister, Albertha Buras of Richland, and a host of nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and on great-great-grandchild.
