Frances (Cox) Jones, 81, of Spartanburg, wife of the late William Stephen Jones, owner of the former Jones Tractor Company on Asheville Highway, passed away at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home on Monday, January 8, 2007.

She was the daughter of the late James Robert Cox and Etha (Bailey) Cox of Belton, SC.

Mrs. Jones graduated from Belton High School and received a BA degree from Furman University. She taught in Spartanburg's District 7 School System for 16 years and continued to work as a tutor in the School System after retirement. She was a Red Cross volunteer for Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for over 12 years, serving on the pediatrics floor and in the gift shop, and was also a volunteer for Mobile Meals for more than 20 years.

Upon the passing of her husband in 1993, she established educational scholarships at Clemson University in his memory. She also established a United Nations Scholarship at Furman University in honor of her granddaughter, Christine Lawson, who was one of the first students to be sent by Furman to the United Nations for a summer internship.

She was a charter member of Fernwood Baptist Church, an active member of the Ruth Sunday School Class, and served in the children's program and the church nursery.

She is survived by four daughters, Teresa J. Carter and her husband Robert S. Carter of Richmond, VA, Patricia J. Jennings and her husband Caleb B. Jennings, III of Spartanburg, Susan J. Lawson and her husband George A. Lawson, Jr. of Aiken, and Karen J. Calhoun and her husband R. Grant Calhoun of Spartanburg.

She also leaves nine grandchildren, Christine Marie Lawson of London, England, Dr. George A. Lawson, III and his wife Amy B. Lawson of Nashville, TN, Ryan S. Lawson of Atlanta, GA, Jean Marie Jennings of Atlanta, GA, Laura P. Jennings of Quito, Ecuador, Caleb B. Jennings, IV of Spartanburg, Meagan E. Calhoun, Craig M. Calhoun, and Mariel G. Calhoun, all of Spartanburg.

Also surviving is her sister, Betty Jo (Cox) Bowe (Mrs. Harold B. Bowe) of Lehigh Acres, FL.

The family received friends 12:30-1:45 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2007, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Funeral services followed at 2:00 PM at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. P. Randall Wright. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Her sons-in-law and grandsons served as pallbearers. Honorary Escort was members of the Ruth Sunday School Class.
