Betty Baumert age 88 of Blair, passed away January 6, 2017 at Esprit Assisted Living in Omaha, Nebraska. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Visitation will be held Monday with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Campbell Aman Funeral Home.

Betty was born on November 20, 1928 at a farmhouse in Wayne County, Winside, NE the daughter of WM. F. and Christina (Muhs) Koepke. The family moved to Hoskins and Pilger in the early 30s. She taught in Rural District 25 in Stanton County from 1946-48. She attended Wayne State Teachers College graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in Education.

She met Gene Baumert in 1949 at a Sadie Hawkins dance. They were married in June of 1951 in Pilger and made their home in Tilden until moving to Blair in 1956. Betty taught in several school districts including Westside Middle School in Omaha for many years. Betty was a lifelong scholar, taking classes through the nearby colleges and belonged to numerous education associations. Betty was an active member of the Methodist Church. She also was an avid gardener and a great dog lover.

Betty is survived by her children: Kim (Barb) Baumert of Elkhorn, NE, Krisy Walters of Gulf Shores, AL, and Kip of Waterloo, NE; grandchildren: Jamie (Dave) Sauerbrunn, Kellie (Corey) Heng, Maggie Baumert, Kaylee Hansen, Garrett (Amy) Hansen; siblings Berneta Schaefer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene; siblings: Wilma Lawson, Alma Carstens, Junior Koepke and Henry Koepke.

Memorials may be directed to the Blair Community School Foundation, First United Methodist Church or mailed to 1323 S. 218th Street, Elkhorn, NE 68022.
