Harris was born April 28, 1923 in Columbus, KS the son of Harris L. and Ruth D. (Painter) Hopkins. Harris attended Columbus schools and graduated from CCCHS in 1940. He served his country during World War II in the 925th Army Anti Aircraft Battalion stationed in the South Pacific.
He attended and graduated from Kansas State College in Pittsburg, KS. He was an accountant for Spencer Chemical, Gulf Oil and Chevron. Harris was a sitting member of the Board of Directors Great Plains Federal Credit Union 35 years retiring from the position in 2011. In Harris's free time he enjoyed hunting and golf.
Harris was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Hopkins Blankenship, nephew Steve Blankenship and great-great nephew Blake Metcalf.
Harris is survived by his sister Geraldine Hopkins, a nephew Matt Blankenship a niece Ruthie Blankenship Box, great nephews Brian Blankenship and Danny Box, great nieces Heather Wallis and Sarah Wolken, 4 great-great nephews and one great-great niece.
Graveside Services will be 11 a.m. Friday January 6, 2017 at the Columbus City Cemetery in Columbus, KS with Pastor Dennis Johnson officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 611 S. East Ave. Columbus, KS 66725.
