In Arkansas Roy farmed, did seasonal work at a canning factory, and worked for the WPA. In 1937 Roy, his wife, and first child, a baby daughter, migrated to Idaho. Roy worked on the construction of the Sun Valley Lodge, then worked for a Dairy and Potato Farm. In 1938 their second child, another daughter was born.

In 1939, Roy and Iva and their 2 children returned to Arkansas, after spending a few intervening months with Iva's brother and his wife in Clay County, MO. Roy and Iva's third child, a son was born in 1940 AR.

In 1941 the family of 4 migrated to Holt, Clay Co., MO. In 1942, their 4th child, another son was born. Roy continued to farm (tobacco, etc.) and the family lived in rural farmhouses.

For five years, from 1946 to 1951, the family of 6 lived in a second-floor apartment in Kearney, Clay Co., MO, and Roy found work at a paint factory. When the family moved to another home in the country, their last child, a daughter, was born. Another farmhouse and another paint factory for Roy. In 1953 the family of 7 moved to a decaying, 2-story home south of Holt, Clay Co., MO. There Roy continued to farm (primarily tobacco) and eventually started his own business 'Mac's Auto Parts.' In 1954, Roy and Iva's first son died of heart disease (he had been pronounced as a 'blue baby' at birth, and endured life-long heart problems).

Later in 1954 Roy's mother, Lucy Wade (Nowlin) McEntire, widowed for almost 10 years, moved from her home in Marion Co., Arkansas to live with Roy's family. In 1955 and 1956 Roy and Iva's two older daughters married brothers.

Lucy Wade died in 1956, and Roy continued to farm (still primarily tobacco) and run his fledgling auto parts business. The smaller family of Roy, Iva, one son, and one daughter moved to another home circa 1959, where their last son joined the Air Force.

Roy leased rural property to move 'Mac's Auto Parts' onto. He placed two trailers on the property, one as his office, and one for the family of three, (Roy, Iva, and their last daughter) to live.

Alcohol had been a huge problem for Roy for much of his life. In 1961, months after his wife and daughter had moved out, Roy took his own life, in his home trailer, 2 miles SE of Holt, Clay Co., MO. (Source: DC#61-024478 - informant is Iva McEntire - cod suicide by pistol).
