William Mabe was a Virginia native. The names of his parents are not known. It is speculated that his father's name is Charles. He married Elizabeth Taylor in Henry County, Virginia on February 3, 1813. He first appeared in the 1820 Giles County, Tennessee census. He and his family lived in Giles County until 1850 where they are in the Lawrence County, Tennessee census . Besides the children that are listed below he and Elizabeth had these children:
James: Born in Henry County on December 7, 1814. James died in Giles County on September 29, 1849. He is buried in the Brick Church Cemetery of that county. He does not appear in any census records
Mary: Born between 1815 and 1820. She married James Jackson.
John: Born December 27, 1816. John moved to Greene County, Alabama. He married Flaveila R. Hal in Greene County on October 6, 1846. He enlisted in Eutaw Rangers in 1846 and served as their 2nd Sgt. in the Mexican War. He died December 29, 1849.
William: Born about 1820. He wrote at least three letters to his sister, Frances Elizabeth, from Eutaw, Alabama. He died there in 1853.
Sarah: Born about 1836. She married Michael Bauer in Owen County, Indiana on August 10, 1854. They moved to Indiana and later to Illinois. She died July 7, 1904.
