Sara Ruth Lawlis Sanders, 94, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Sears Methodist Center Chapel with Gary Ball and Robert Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Sanders was born in Murfreesboro, Ark.,to Rev. John Franklin and Sallie (Skinner) Lawlis. She attended Southwestern State University in Georgetown. She taught school in West Texas for more than 40 years and moved to Abilene in 1972. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was the widow of Cloyde Sanders.
Survivors include one son, John R. Sanders of Abilene; three daughters, Ann Latimer of Plano, Sally Loch of Longview and Paula Cavitt of Atlanta; one sister, Frances Gordon of Abilene; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
