He married Esther Elizabeth LaRose at the Wren's Nest (home of her uncle, Joel Chandler Harris) on September 14, 1899
Charles then began his active newspaper career including work at The Constitution, The Atlanta News, The Georgian, Uncle Remus Magazine, and The Atlanta Journal, where he worked on the editorial staff until his death.
