|Birth: ||Apr. 21, 1915|
|Death: ||Jan. 12, 2007|
A servant of God, Annette left us on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. We thank God for her extraordinarily rich, full and long life. Praise be to God!
The daughter of John and Garva Blanton of Lattimore, she met her future husband, Thomas Ray Cline, while both attended Appalachian State. Annette was chosen as "Miss Appalachian" and elected to the May Court in 1939. She represented Appalachian as a soloist in their weekly broadcast from WBT in Charlotte.
Following graduation, she and Ray married in 1942 at "The Little Church Around the Corner" in Manhattan, NY. During 64 years of marriage Ray respected, loved and adored her; they were inseparable to the end.
Annette and Ray lived in New York City for two years while he served in the Coast Guard as a Chief Petty Officer. During that time, Annette held various jobs in Manhattan. After their move back to North Carolina, she taught for 32 years in Kannapolis and Marion.
A former member of the "Sweet Adelines," music was a big part of Annette's life. She was a frequent soloist at Marion First Baptist and sang at numerous weddings. In her later years she enjoyed singing along with her player piano.
A graceful, lovely and dignified woman, her family and friends will also remember her as an incurable extrovert who truly loved people. Her quick smile, frequent laughter and occasional tendency toward mischief endeared her to all.
She loved to deliver her "famous" pecan pies to those in need; she also loved to visit and sing to nursing home residents. Annette thoroughly enjoyed her many encounters with former students. As her memory faded in the later years, she often greeted people with "Didn't I teach you?" May God bless all of you who took the time to talk with her; you added much sunshine to her life.
Annette served as chairwoman for the Christian Women's Club, chairwoman of the McDowell Nursing Homes Advisory Board, and was also a member of the Agricultural Extension Service Advisory Board. She was a long time member of Marion First Baptist, where she also served as a Sunday school teacher and choir member.
