Epitaph:
Beneath this lowly mound
A tender Husband & Father sleeps

The G.A.R. Post 60 in Salem, NH was named in honor of him.
On 27 January 2007, the Sons of the Union Veterans formed the Gilman E Sleeper Camp #60 and on 24 March 2007, Auxiliary # 60 was formed.

For perhaps the first time since the disbanding of the original GAR post, his grave was decorated and a ceremony honoring him was performed by Camp #60 for Memorial Day 2007.

A heartfelt thank you to Bruce Heald, author of New Hampshire in the Civil War, for allowing Camp #60 to use the photo of Lt. Sleeper.
