A native of Baldwinsville, Mr. Calkins resided most of his life in the Cato area. He retired as a custodian after 20 years with the Cato-Meridian Central School District and previously was a farmer and employed with Morris Machine Works and Carrier Corp.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, the former Barbara Purdy; two sons, John of Baldwinsville and Richard of Cato; a daughter, Jean White of Memphis; seven granchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several neices and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jewell Funeral Home, Cato, the Rev. Charles Keller officiating. Burial will be in the Monumental Cemetery, Meridian.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Cato Rescue Unit.
