A life-long resident of Middleboro, Donald graduated from Middleboro High School, class of 1946 and Rochester Institute of Technology. After serving in the United States Army, he became involved in the family business - Winthrop-Atkins Co., Inc. where he met Natalie, his bride of 60 years. He is survived by his son, Paul T. Atkins and his wife Anita, of Lakeville, his daughters, Linda Jo Kirschner and her husband Robert, of Lakeville, and Patricia Chase and her husband Jeffrey, of Middleboro. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and his beloved "grand-dog, Pepsi". Other survivors include his 'best buddy' -- his brother, Harold Atkins and his wife Peg, of Middlbeoro, and two sisters, Emily Lindberg and Jeanette Louth of West Harwich, his step-mother, Eilene Atkins, of Middleboro, along with many other "in-laws," nieces, nephews, and cousins. More than anything, Donald loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling, reading, spending summers at his Onset home and boating on the family yacht, the "Jo-Ho" appopriately named for his Mother and Father, Josephine and Horace Atkins, who predeceased him. During his lifetime, in addition to his involvement with the family business, Donald was extremely dedicated to his community, serving on many civic organizations locally: The Peirce Trustees, Middleborough Lions Club, Church of Our Saviour Vestry, Middleborough Masonic Lodge, Middleborough YMCA, Rockland Trust Company, the former Middleboro Trust Company Board of Directors, Middleborough Town Hall Restoration Committee, Joseph F. Atkins Memorial Building (Middleborough Youth Building), the former St. Luke's Hospital in Middleboro Board of Directors, Bristol-Plymouth Regional Vocational Technical High School Committee (proudly serving as Chairman since its inception), just to name a few.
