Olympic Athlete, Politician. She was a silver medalist in the pentathlon at the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City. She broke the world record in the event the following year and established the Austrian record in the shot put that stood until the late 1990s. She was appointed as Austria's first female Interior Minister in 2004, after serving in local and regional government for 23 years.
