Frances English Wilson, 91, a long time resident of Merkel, Texas, passed away peacefully Friday, December 29th, 2006 at home. She was born in Haskell, Texas on April 14, 1915 to Albert Day and Bessie Bray English.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 1, 2007, at the Merkel United Methodist Church with Reverend Curtis Bentley officiating. Visitation will be at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night. Graveside services will be in Haskell, Texas at the Willow Cemetery following the church services.

She was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Wilson. She leaves her children Robert Wilson (currently residing in) Pittsford, New York, Suzie Anderson of Glen Rose, Texas, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Frances English was a prominent business woman in Haskell, Texas before moving to Merkel in 1948 to marry Woodrow Wilson who owned Wilson?s Jewelry Store on Edwards Street. Frances was always very active. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Merkel Garden Club, the Merkel Sewing Club, and Meals-on-Wheels. Frances was the Merkel Ombudsman for the Texas Department on Aging. She was District Director of Methodist Youth Fellowship and a local leader. While her two children were growing up, among other things, she was a Cub Scout leader and operated the concession stand at Little League games. She worked in Abilene and was recognized for her work at the Abilene State School.

Frances was a loving, caring, Mother, Grandmother, and a GREAT Grandmother who brought Great Joy to her family and friends. Frances never met anyone who stayed a stranger for long. Her family and friends will deeply miss her, and know that she is with her Lord and Savior. Memorials may be made to Merkel First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 426, Merkel, Texas 79536 in memory of Frances English Wilson.

She will be greatly missed. We love you very much!
