NEW BERN - Robert L. Ormond, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Vanceboro. Burial will follow in the Morris Family Cemetery.
Mr. Ormond, a native of Craven County, lived most of his life in Vanceboro. He was a member of the Vanceboro Pentecostal Holiness Church and had worked for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenner Mae Morris Ormond.
He is survived by his son, the Rev. Robert A. Ormond and wife, Juanita, of Tarboro; daughter, Phyllis O. Smith of New Bern; grandchildren, Lisa Michelle Rivera, Heather Dawn Jones, Robert Bryan Ormond, Russell Dean Akers, Darrell Gene Akers, and Ryan Earl Smith; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, David Jerome Ormond and wife, Linda, of Vanceboro; and sisters, Polly O. Whitehurst and husband, Arthur, of New Bern, Naomi O. Edwards of New Bern, and Peggy O. Lawrence of Elizabeth City.
