While investigating an explosion at an arms factory in Baghdad, Iraq, he was arrested for spying. Despite promises of a fair trial by Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, Bazoft was given a one-day, behind-closed-doors trial. He was convicted and sentenced to death.
