John Mentzer is one of the oldest pioneers of Coulterville. 1852 is the year he appeared on the scene. Mr. Mentzer was an employee of General Fremont in 1858. For many years he was in active business in Coulterville. George and Clinton Mentzer of Nuggetville are his sons.
